Support

Write to support@kanjo.sg. It reaches a person, not a queue.
You will get a reply within two working days, usually sooner. Kanjō is run by one person, so that is a promise that can actually be kept rather than an implied support desk with opening hours. If something is broken and costing you money, say so in the subject line and it goes to the front.
Reporting from inside the app is better than email, when you can: Report a problem on the web, or Settings → Report a problem in the iOS app. Both attach your version, build, device and OS automatically, which saves the two rounds of "which version are you on?" that otherwise start every conversation. You can send one without your account attached, but then we have no way to reply.
Sharing a category: what each level can do
Sharing is per category, not per account — you can share groceries and keep everything else private. The owner picks one of four levels, can change it later, and can revoke it at any time.
- View — can see the category and its entries. Cannot change anything.
- Add — can see everything and add new entries. Cannot edit or delete.
- Edit own — can add, and can change or delete the entries they created themselves. This is the level most couples want.
- Edit all — can change or delete anything in the category, including entries the owner created.
Every change writes an audit entry recording who made it, at every level. Nobody can quietly edit a shared ledger.
An invitation goes to an email address. If that address already has a Kanjō account it appears under Invites straight away; if not, the invitation waits and is picked up when they register with it. Until they accept, they see nothing.
A receipt was read wrongly
Scanning uses a language model, and it is very good but not perfect — a crumpled receipt, an unusual layout or a faded thermal print will occasionally come back with the wrong total or a missing line.
Every field is editable before you save, and afterwards. Tap the expense and correct it; the original photo stays attached, so you can always check what the receipt actually said. If the merchant or date is wrong, fixing those does not affect the amount.
If it comes back completely unreadable, the receipt is marked failed rather than left spinning, and you can retry it or enter the expense by hand. A failed scan does not use up one of your monthly scans.
How currency conversion picks a rate
An expense in a currency other than your base currency stores three things: the amount as you entered it, the rate used, and the converted amount. The rate is fetched for the date of the expense, not today, so a holiday in June is still valued at June's rate when you look at it in December.
You can override the rate — useful when your card's actual rate differed from the published one, which it usually does. Once saved, the converted amount does not drift: a past expense never changes value because the market moved.
Rates come from Frankfurter, which publishes European Central Bank data. Zero- decimal currencies such as yen and won are handled without a decimal part.
Cancelling a subscription
Where you cancel depends on where you subscribed, and they are different places:
- In the iOS app — on your device, in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Apple does not let us cancel it for you, and refunds are requested from Apple.
- On the web — in Kanjō Settings, which opens Stripe's billing portal. Or write to us and we will do it.
Not sure which you have? Kanjō Settings shows it, and so does your data export. Cancelling stops the renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Your data is untouched either way — the account simply returns to the free plan.
Getting your data out
Settings → export downloads your entire ledger as a JSON file: account, expenses, categories, accounts, recurring entries, receipts, exchange rates and sharing. Amounts are strings rather than numbers so nothing is rounded on the way out.
This is free on every plan. It is your data, and a legal right is not a feature we would sell you.
Deleting your account, and exactly what goes
Settings → delete account. You type your email address to confirm, because it is not undoable.
What is removed: your account, your expenses and their audit history, your categories, accounts, recurring entries, receipts and the files behind them, statements, imported transactions, exchange rates, notification preferences and device tokens, subscription history, and every share you granted or accepted.
What this means for other people: expenses you created in someone else's shared category are deleted too, so their totals will change. If you own a category you have shared, deleting your account removes it for everyone. Take an export first if any of that matters.
Reporting a security problem
Email support@kanjo.sg with "security" in the subject. Please tell us what you found and how to reproduce it, and give us a reasonable chance to fix it before publishing.
We do not run a bug bounty and cannot pay for reports — we would rather say that than imply otherwise. We will credit you if you would like us to. Reports about other people's accounts, or anything involving actual customer data, get answered the same day.
Anything else
support@kanjo.sg. If the answer turns out to be useful to more than one person, it ends up on this page.
